Slow Pitch Softball Rules

Slow pitch softball rules are very similar to baseball rules. You get three strikes and you are out , you get four bad pitches and you get to walk to first base. You bat the ball that is pitched by the pitcher in order to run around the three bases and make it home.

There is not a lot of difference between slow pitch softball rules and baseball rules, although there are some minor differences.

One of the biggest differences between slow pitch softball rules and baseball rules is the way that the ball is pitched to the batter. In slow pitch softball, the ball is pitched underhanded and not overhand. The ball arcs up when it reaches the plate, making it easier for the batter to hit it. Slow pitch softball rules mean that the ball is pitched in a certain way that is much slower than the pitches in regular baseball. This is one of the biggest differences when it comes to slow pitch softball rules and baseball rules.

There are also less innings in softball than in baseball. While innings are essentially structured the same way, slow pitch softball rules call for six innings rather than nine, as is the case with a traditional baseball game. Depending on the league and those playing, the innings may be cut down to less than six and some players will play five innings for slow pitch softball.

Equipment is also different when it comes to softball versus baseball. Gloves are against the slow pitch softball rules if playing 16 inch slow pitch softball. While gloves can be worn for 12 inch softball, wearing a glove to catch the ball for 16 inch softball is against the slow pitch softball rules.

A foul ball on the third strike means that you are out when you are playing slow pitch softball. This is one of the slow pitch softball rules that is very different than baseball rules. In baseball, you can get as many fouls as you want when batting and only the first two count as strikes. In softball, all foul balls count as strikes. Walks are not usually called during softball games as they are in baseball games. The pitcher stands much closer to the batter when playing softball as opposed to playing baseball and the bases are closer together as well as closer to the home plate.

When it comes to the players, the same amount of players as well a positions coincide with both slow pitch softball rules as well as baseball rules. There are nine playing members to each team and both sides play offense and defense in this game. Slow pitch softball is a no contact, fun game to play and there are leagues and teams comprised of virtually all age groups.
